<dc:description>This study develops a group of new leap selecting procedures and accep- tance criteria for use with the tau leaping method for stochastically simulat- ing the particle coalescence problem. Existing work provides leap selection procedures for pre-leap methods and leap acceptance criteria for post-leap methods. These existing methods have been primarily designed for stochas- tic chemical reaction problems and are not necessarily well-suited for the increased number of possible events present in coagulation and coalescence simulations. In this work, simple and computationally efficient conditions are developed that perform well for coagulation problems, both for pre-leap selection and post-leap acceptance testing for tau leaping simulation. The- oretical background for these conditions is provided and their performance is investigated numerically. A comparative study is provided of error and computational cost using the pre-existing and newly developed conditions for both pre-leap and post-leap tau selection.</dc:description>
