The importance is seen in both its standard and dialectal forms. One of the important syntactic aspects of Arabic is negation, a fundamental phenomenon in the study of syntax. Negation has been investigated by many scholars, such as Pollock (1989), Brustad (2000), Benmamoun (2000) and Ouhalla and Shlonsky (2002). Building on previous studies, this thesis provides a description of the morpho-syntax of negation patterns in Kuwaiti Arabic. By incorporating examples from corpora, this thesis sheds light on different types of negative elements which have not been examined in previous Arabic syntactic studies. The Kuwaiti dialect is considered in this thesis as a representative of Arabic dialects as it encompasses different types of negative elements. This study presents a descriptive work on the morpho-syntax of negation in Kuwaiti Arabic and Standard Arabic by examining the syntactic distributions of the negative markers in these two varieties.
