          <dc:description>This thesis develops a hierarchical control algorithm for computing suboptimal decentralized gains based on infimal problem parameterizations. Several parameterizations are presented and illustrated with numerical examples. The algorithm and the parameterization lead to simpler supremal problems and significant reduction in computational requirements as compared with other current approaches. In the special case of interconnected subsystems with two time-scales, the supremal problem also possesses two time-scales. The latter is used in a new approximation scheme for solving Lyapunov equations of systems with multiple time-scales.</dc:description>
