<dc:description>Ever since step motors have become an established component in incremental motion control systems, there has been a need to accurately predict their static characteristics based on motor geometry and material properties. In this work, the magnetic circuit method is applied to find the field distribution within a high-resolution variable-reluctance step motor. The method is generalized to include two-dimensional elements. As a result, the method offers reasonable accuracy, is flexible in application, and is computationally efficient. Given the field distribution as described by the magnetic circuit solution, the motor's static holding torque and winding inductances are found.</dc:description>
