Koizumi, Kiyoka 2014-12-16T05:48:07Z 2014-12-16T05:48:07Z 10000-01-01 1983 1983 The purpose of this study was to investigate the longitudinal effects of the Know Your Body (KYB) curriculum and the clinical screenings in improving health knowledge, attitude and habits of the high school students. Data were collected from 897 ninth grade students enrolled in health education classes during the spring 1981 semester in Decatur public school system in Decatur, Illinois. The study population was followed for one year after the completion of the KYB curriculum in the classroom. The group with the KYB experimental curriculum demonstrated a significantly (at .01 level) higher knowledge level than the control group one year after the intervention. The same group failed to show, however, any positive long term KYB curriculum effects in attitude and habit levels. The periodic clinical screening also failed to show long-term positive impacts on the students' knowledge, attitude, and habit levels. The recommendations from this research include: (1) the involvement of parents in the school health programs and (2) the replication of the study with more reliable instruments to measure the results.
