This thesis examines the textual evidence underlying Sir David's work, and corrects many errors that have found their way into his text due to his relying on the inadequate work of his predecessors, notably Th. Waitz (Leipzig: 1844), while making use (where possible) of marginalia in an old edition of the work belonging to Vahlen. The collations are prefaced with an introductory chapter tracing the history of the textual tradition of the Analytics in antiquity, making use of testimonia of Strabo, Athenaeus and others. Finally, the evidence of the collations is analyzed in the third chapter for what it may tell us of the relationships between surviving manuscripts; a tentative stemma is suggested which departs from the accepted notion of the relative independence of manuscript "n" (Ambrosianus L 93 sup.), and which incorporates the evidence of the correctors of the various manuscripts for what it may tell us of the sources of the corrections.
