This research studies the potential of using current No-Mow Zones and prairie zones at the University of Illinois as pollinator refuges and proposes new possible sites to form a network of pollinator habitats on campus. The ecological approach considers human systems and natural systems to be integral and mutually impacting. The project consists of three parts. The first part is research on existing No-Mow Zones and prairie zones on campus to explore the possibility of developing those areas into pollinator habitats. The second part is the selection of potential sites for new pollinator habitats on the University of Illinois campus. The third part applies my findings to a series of site-specific proposals and proposes habitat design guidelines. This thesis envisions the changes in campus landscape response to the decrease in pollinators and proposes new pollinator habitat sites.
