Students reported an increase in their writing and critical thinking skills as a result of faculty mentoring. Guidance towards or modeling of graduate study, occupational preparation, and the informational benefits of expanded networks were professional benefits of mentoring and networking. The results of this work suggest the importance of mentorship in preparing students of color for both graduate education and entrance into the professoriate.
