          <dc:description>Chapter 5 shows how interdialectal differences stem from constraint ranking. Epenthesis and syncope in Iraqi and Egyptian Arabic are accounted for by permuting the constraint set that is present in the grammar of Syrian Arabic. A discussion of emphatic rounding in Lebanese Arabic is then pursued, comparing this dialect to SA utilizing the mechanism of parametrization.</dc:description>
