His use of these allowed the first Roman emperor to knit together widely separated and diverse portions of the empire into a single body. This study not only addresses the consolidation of the provinces into the Roman Empire but also contributes to the larger scholarly discussion regarding how provincial populations became increasingly ""Romanized."""
