<dc:description>We have shown that piglets suckling IGF exhibit structural and functional changes similar to those observed in piglets receiving formula supplemented with IGF-I. The location and timing of the response to IGF-I differs from previous studies. Insulin like growth factor-I appeared to act via the type I IGF receptor at d 21 in the ileum of piglets suckling IGF. Microarray analysis elucidated differentially expressed genes involved in proliferation, as well as genes involved in immune function and metabolism, suggesting new avenues for IGF-I research.</dc:description>
