The first part considers a model which studies how the process of suburbanization affects individuals' residential location choices when individuals are subject to borrowing constraints. The second part addresses the issue of income redistribution when there is no accurate information on individuals' income levels. In this context, the government may find it optimal to publicly provide certain goods and services that have private substitutes in addition to in-cash transfers. The final part of the study explores the redistributive implications of the public provision of education. Considering that individuals may receive private education or, alternatively, stay uneducated, the objective is to analyze how individuals distribute themselves across the alternatives, and how this distribution responds to changes in the parameters of the model. Hence, once the characteristics of those individuals attending public schools are identified, it is possible to evaluate the redistributive effectiveness of the policy.
