<dc:description>"Finally, the time series properties of some migration flows to the U.S. during the 20th century are investigated. The inertial component of migration, associated with the ""friends and relatives effect"" is connected to the hypothesis of unit root. Given the series idiosyncrasies, the performances of the Hasan-Koenker robust unit root test and least square based tests are compared. The tests exhibit some contradictory results. The residuals of the augmented Dickey-Fuller models are heavy tailed distributed. It was expected that the Hasan-Koenker test would reject more often when the unit root hypothesis seems implausible (as indicated by the autocorrelation functions), but this does not occur on a regular basis."</dc:description>
