<dc:description>The paper is able to empirically uphold the following three theoretical predictions. First, newly hired employees are more likely to be promoted than incumbents are. Second, the length of time until a promotion is shorter for new hires than incumbents. Third, incumbents receive more favorable job evaluations than new hires. The third result is the only result that does not have empirical support elsewhere.</dc:description>
