Following a historical view of Riepel, the theories presented in the first two chapters of his treatise will be described and implemented to analyze his Concerto Pastorale. Analysis of this piece will not only emphasize the consistency of Riepel's theoretical ideas as applied to his own compositional work, but also show the complexity and integrity of his musical ideas.
