Speakers of this dialect categorically produced more occlusive realizations in all tasks performed relative to those obtained from speakers of Madrid Spanish. This study has shown that the traditional account of the allophonic distribution of /b, d, g/ is much more complex and varied than previously considered. The application of an acoustic analysis of these segments has provided a quantitative approach to the characterization of voiced stop allophony in Spanish.
