<dc:description>This dissertation then offers a detailed examination of the written decision for Roth v. United States, and the oral transcript of the Supreme Court trial. Roth is a landmark case, not only because of its legal implications, but because it writes out of United States law, in relation to obscenity, the use of protectionist discourse as a reason to censor sexually explicit materials. After Roth as a society, we could not use the protection of women as a reason to censor texts. Culturally, this helped empower women to become agents of their sexuality.</dc:description>
