<dc:description>"From these genes, two were examined to further characterize their roles in development and transdifferentiation. The matrix metalloproteinase Xmmp-9 was found to function during migratory and morphogenetic processes during development, and it was found to be upregulated during wound healing. Psf2 codes for a factor which functions during DNA replication as a member of the GINS heterotetramer (Kubota et al., 2003), a ""sliding clamp"" involved in DNA replication. In situ hybridization revealed that Psf2 is expressed during embryonic development in a tissue-specific manner, including the optic cup and the lens. Morpholino-mediated knockdown of Psf2 resulted in dosage-dependent phenotypes which included microphthalmia, coloboma, and abnormal lens formation. Additionally, tissue manipulation experiments in conjunction with morpholino injections demonstrated intrinsic roles for Psf2 in retinal and lens development and, secondarily, during the late phase of lens induction."</dc:description>
