<dc:description>In vivo MR-imaging was also applied to study effects of neonatal, unilateral olfactory denervation on postnatal olfactory bulb growth. The in vivo imaging data were used to quantify the reduction in laminar volumes of the denervated bulb, compared to contralateral control bulb, unoperated normal rat bulbs and with corresponding histological sections. Lastly, serial 2-D in vivo MR-images were utilized to develop 3-D reconstructions of olfactory bulb and cavity micro-structure, in normal and neonatally denervated animals. The 3-D images offered improved flexibility in the analysis of large experimental imaging data-sets and rather detailed, well differentiated representation of various olfactory structures.</dc:description>
