Abstract
Genetic causes are implicated in the mechanisms of certain diseases that disproportionately affect African Americans. Yet, geneticists' general consensus is that genetic variability does not fall along phenotypic, or physically-manifesting, racial categories. Genetic differences by race may be influenced by the effect of stress caused by social structures, but more investigation is needed. Moreover, tools to measure health may introduce artifacts of socioeconomic status that may confound racial associations. The latest literature on ovarian cancer as it correlates with obesity measurements is featured to analyze current biomedical findings.
