Abstract: This is an abstract representation of the origin of the materials used in my research. Liquefaction of saturated sands under seismic loading is a major concern in geo-structures and what we focus on is the development of a systematic process to numerically simulate and estimate soil liquefaction phenomena. Although the research is performed computationally, its validation is based on the material itself and its properties, so performing laboratory tests in samples is extremely important. This photo was taken through a petrographic microscope during one of my geology classes and shows a cross-polarized view of a thin section of a siliciclastic rock which had once been sand and which also might be weathered or eroded back to sand, participating in the constant cycle of rock and soil.
