- Abstract
- Ray tracing is a method of realistic rendering which traces the path of beams of light as they move through a 3D scene. Although more computationally expensive, ray tracing tends to give realistic results. With modern technology, such as Nvidia’s RTX GPUs, real-time ray tracing is becoming more and more feasible. We will use this concept to simulate realistic audio. Audio can be just as important to the immersiveness of a scene as visuals are. We utilize real-time ray tracing technology to add realistic audio to the game Minecraft. Two methods of extracting scene data have been implemented and compared. We also look at methods to inject code into the game and efficient ways of data transfer in and out of the game engine. We will gauge our progress by looking for complex sound features such as obstruction and reverberance, as well as the impact on performance
