Abstract

My research focused on determining the best practices for managing dairy goats in the American Midwest. I reviewed both the literary recommendations and on-farm practices taking place at three goat dairies in the region. One of the highlights of my research was observing and interacting with the young goats on the farms. They have so much enthusiasm and personality, but they also require more intensive management to stay safe and healthy. This photo is typical of my research; there is an energetic young goat, curious to explore her surroundings and too impatient to stand still, and there is a pair of human arms attempting to keep the animal safely confined and protected. There is never a dull moment on a goat dairy!
