Abstract
Lesser Scaup are a species of conservation concern under the Illinois Wildlife Action Plan and the Upper Mississippi River and Great Lakes Region Joint Venture of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Lesser Scaup or bluebills, as they are commonly referred to by hunters, are more abundant in the Illinois River Valley (IRV) during spring than fall, suggesting that wetlands associated with this river system may provide important stopover habitat during a critical period of the annual cycle.
