- Abstract
- The work presented here is a continuation of the Illini Air Shuttle project, focused on furthering the configuration design of an eVTOL tilt wing passenger aircraft using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) code to optimize the configuration design and potentially reduce the weight of the battery. The flow properties were calculated using a SST k-ω RANS model in Fluent Student Edition. The results of the CFD are presented below with a tentatively superior design alongside with a discussion of the impacts on the required power storage for the mission. Due to resource constraints, the results of the simulations were not validated with wind tunnel testing, instead a design of experiment is presented for future validation. However, a subscale wing tilt design was designed and tested in hopes of speeding implementation of wing tilt design into a subscale model for testing.
