Abstract
Thank you for the opportunity to provide comments to NTIA via the “AI Accountability Policy Request for Comment.” As emerging AI is deployed in many contexts, it is critical that systems and applications receive sufficient scrutiny, via monitoring and evaluation, and that we develop mechanisms for accountability and enforcement, in order to prevent, mitigate, and remediate harms and externalities imposed by AI.
We are academic researchers in the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. We write to encourage contextual federal rule-making regarding anti-discrimination and contextual AI audits. We look forward to further opportunities to engage with the Agency’s staff to provide additional analysis as the rulemaking process evolves.
