Abstract
Bridge or tunnel strikes by over-height vehicles are a challenge to the transportation industry. This problem causes significant economic and social losses to the transportation industry. Low-clearance detection warning (LCDW) is one of the important technological means to address this issue. This research project was sponsored by Illinois Department of Transportation to review different LCDW systems in the current market and to collect information about their adoption in other states. The focus is on understanding the types of LCDW systems available in the market, the technology options, and their effectiveness and costs (including potential vendors).
