Abstract
This protocol aims to distinguish between retracted publications and retraction notices in Crossref data.
This addresses a problem discovered in the STI 2023 paper (Schneider, Lee, Zheng, & Salami, 2023): We want to manually curate items that appear to be retracted publications per Crossref, but not according to any one of our other sources (Retraction Watch, Scopus, Web of Science). Of the 9937 items uniquely returned from Crossref (Lee and Schneider, 2023), many do not seem to be retracted publications.
