- Abstract
- Anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder (PD), social anxiety disorder, and phobia-related disorders are the most common group of mental disorders in the U.S. Anxiety disorders are treated with psychological therapy and phramacotherapy. Pharmacotherapy includes first-line drug selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) as well as second or third-line drug serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). Both have the potential to induce adverse effects and can lead to similar withdrawal symptoms due to their effects on neurotransmitters and serotonin levels (Gupta et al., 2021). However, SSRI is widely considered to be the first choice for anxiety disorder therapy in comparison to SNRI because of its recent developments.
