Published in 1866, Principles of Modern Chem. by Benjamin Silliman, Jr. and George F. Barker, has gone unnoticed by chem. historians. This extremely rare text was the first American work to present the "new chem." of the 1860s. An examn. of the vol. reveals it to be a revision of the first section of Silliman's famous text, First Principles of Chem.
