Abstract
Johannes Wislicenus (1835-1902) can be viewed as one of the earliest of chemists to take a phys.-chem., mechanistic approach to understanding some chem. transformations. A unique aspect of his life was a 2-yr residency in the US during which he held, among others, a position in the Harvard lab. of Professor Eben Horsford.
