Biog Pfaff Voltaic Electricity
Abstract
A brief biog. of chemist and physicist Christoph Heinrich Pfaff is presented. Pfaff was born on Mar. 2, 1773 in Stuttgart, Germany. He made many contributions to animal electricity and the understanding of the Volta pile. Focus is made on his participation in the debate on whether the action of the Volta pile was due solely to a contact force (emf.) arising between two different metals, or to chem. processes.
