Abstract
Equivalent quantities of ions are discharged at the resp. electrodes when a soln. is electrolyzed. However, the anions and cations migrate toward the resp. electrodes with unequal velocities. The transference nos. are the fractions of the total amt. of electricity carried by the anion and by the cation, resp. Studies made by Morris Loeb and Walther Nernst on transference nos. are related.
