Abstract
This study presents a literature-based analysis to infer the relationship between open science and sustainability science, highlighting the trend toward embracing openness across all scientific disciplines and the evolution of open science in the direction of sustainability. By proposing a conceptual framework, the research explores the dynamics of interaction between open science and sustainability science, encompassing the principles of research transparency and sustainable development. It uncovers the synergistic relationship between these fields through their collaborative efforts, delving into the interplay between the components of open science (such as FAIR principles and citizen science) and the normative and practical as-pects of sustainability science (such as Sustainable Development Goals and Long-Term Socio-Ecological Research). This preliminary discussion aims to stimulate further discourse on developing a framework for sustainable open science and promoting innovations that advance both fields.
