Abstract

Complementary patents have shown tremendous value in promoting technological innovation, reducing costs, and enhancing competitiveness. The contruction of existing complementary patent datasets tends to focus on the internal attributes and feature associations between patents, such as co-occurrence patterns and differences in patent classification numbers. However, market transaction activities reflect the complementarity of patents, where external market factors such as the frequency and scale of patent assignment can directly affect the judgment of patent complementarity. Therefore, this paper extracts and analyzes market transaction information from patent assignment records to design complementary patent discrimination indicators and construct a more comprehensive complementary patent dataset. The research results indicate that the complementary patent discrimination indicators designed in this paper can identify more refined and commercially valuable complementary patents. Compared to traditional methods, the complementary patents identified in this paper have a wider and more comprehensive range of technical fields.
