- Abstract
- The Human Reference Atlas (HRA), developed by HuBMAP in close collaboration with other consortia, is underpinned by a vast body of literature, including the HRAlit dataset, which compiles relevant publications. Given the significant impact of retractions on medical sciences, our study aims to identify retracted publications within HRAlit, to assess the quality and risks associated with published research in HRAlit. By cross-referencing the Retraction Watch database, we identified 4,690 retracted publications in HRAlit. We then analyzed these publications in terms of time lag between publication and retraction, discipline, journal, country, and retraction reasons. Additionally, we developed a classification of retraction reasons to distinguish whether this publication is suspected of research misconduct, of which 8 types are suspected research misconduct reasons, and the other 8 types do not directly indicate suspected research misconduct. Through this study, we aim to provide recommendations for research management and the promotion of scientific integrity, ultimately supporting the construction and utilization of the HRA using peer-reviewed, high-quality scientific papers.
