Abstract
This pilot study aims at uncovering underlying dimensions of opinions on the use of data analytics in decision making in higher education by specifically focusing on two groups who are directly involved in the processes. An online opinion survey was conducted to 30 higher education professionals using Q methodology. The first group were university administrators in academic or administrative leadership positions. The second group were experts who provide data analytics support to administrators. This preliminary study explores not only the potential underlying dimensions of participants’ viewpoints but also examines whether there are shared and/or contrasting perspectives between experts and administrators, as well as within each group. The results revealed that both groups perceived that discourses between university administrators and data analytics experts play crucial roles in the development of data analytics models, particularly in the early stages of the project. At the same time, divergent viewpoints are found primarily in areas related to expectations for data analytics. Findings can be applied to broader areas to develop strategies to develop and improve decision-making data analytics models.
