Abstract
After overcoming access and skill barriers, the elderly face digital addiction, which endangers their well-being. Understanding its causes is key to solving this problem. This study investigates 28 elderly participants from Tianjin and Hebei, China, gathering data on their digital addiction experiences and opinions via in-depth interviews. Employing a phenomenological approach, it analyzes the current use of ICT devices and digital addiction among the elderly, identifies their addiction experiences, and redefines "digital addiction" from four dimensions: space-time, objects, emotional spirit, and relationships. The findings offer theoretical insights into defining elderly digital addiction and practical implications for helping them achieve digital detox.
