- Abstract
- In this world of fragments and chaos, there’s still a kaleidoscope that makes sense. The rows of different colored bangles situate the context of my research community. These rows of bangles are representative of beauty, resplendence, fragility, but also diversity, strength, and resilience much like the inhabitants of this community. These attributes hold them together. The images of the goats and the kittens are representative of connection, something that makes us crave community and miss community. These roadside residents find community in the company of each other. They belong to no one and yet they belong to everyone. They find connection through their anonymity. The third theme of composition represents the ways in which the children from this community engage with their worlds and express themselves – through pictures, through texts, through colors. The world is their oyster, and the paper is their canvas where they weave the colors of their lives into stories. My work with this community has been that of reflection and awareness as I make my own connections, find ways to be in communion with community members, and find creative ways to compose and express my voice through my research.
