- Abstract
- This research explores the school process known as tracking and the ways in which one secondary school leader reformed their school practices through the process of detracking. The purposes of this dissertation is to: (1) understand the decision-making process to detrack, (2) identify and overcome challenges to the district, and (3) explore the opportunities that emerged as a result of detracking. Through the theoretical framework of Critical Race Theory (CRT), I conducted an interview case study of a high school principal of a small, unit district in central Illinois, seeking to address and analyze these research questions. By following the framework provided, I close by providing “an administrator’s guide to detracking,” following the eight themes that emerged: collaboration, consensus, consistency, community building, convergence, communication, commitment, and cultivating leadership.
