A review on the suggestion by the two Russian scientists, Ivan Alekseevich Kablukov and Vladimir Aleksandrovich Kistiakovskii, that hydration could be regarded as complementary, rather than contradictory, to dissoln. A brief biog. account of the life of these two scientists is also provided, focusing on their efforts to solve applied problems in phys. chem. and electrochem. and their contributions to the development of these fields of research in Russia and the Soviet Union.
