Abstract
Although the teaching of chem. at Oberlin College began a year after the founding of the college in 1833, a distinct chem. department dates from just before 1880. A brief historical account on the 86 yr period from 1880-1966 of the chem. department is presented, focusing on four prominent figures who were chem. faculty members during this time period, namely, Frank F. Jewett, harry N. Holmes, Luke E. Steiner, and J. Arthur Campbell.
