Abstract
A historical account of the early days of chem. education at the Catholic University of America is presented, focusing on the contributions of Rev. John J. Griffin. The early years of the Chem. Department from 1985 to 1921 were dominated by Griffin. Griffin was the sole research supervisor of the chem. graduates and the chem. engineering undergraduates. During this period, he supervised four doctoral and about twenty Master dissertations. All of the research was in the area of org. chem., which was the major interest of Griffin.
