Abstract
The history of the search for and discovery of Element 61 is one of the most complex and confused of any of the elements in the periodic table. Two American chemists, Charles James of the University of New Hampshire and B. Smith Hopkins of the University of Illinois were involved in the controversies that surrounded claims of discovery for element 61 in the 1920s.
