The article presents an account of the life and scientific accomplishments of James Riddick Partington. Partington is known as a significant British historian of chem. His early career and his establishment as a London chemist, examples of his research in phys. chem., and the reasons for his failure to gain a Fellowship of the Royal Society are particularly discussed.
