Abstract
The shortage of peer and mentor support for female org. chemists can only partially explain the current relative dearth of women in synthetic org. chem. As the role of the research advisor can be crucial, some male org. chemists have effectively and consistently mentored women, and high percentages of women were present in their research groups. Arthur C. Cope and Harry S. Mosher are two org. chemists who valued the contributions of their female research colleagues. The time period of Cope's research was between 1934 and 1966, and Mosher maintained his research group from 1942 to 1980.
