Abstract
The article covers the two 1874 papers of Benjamin Silliman Jr. to enlighten readers on state of American chem. on the centennial of the founding of the United States and the birth of the American Chem. Society. The papers contain a total of 57 pages and covering the content of his address in Northumberland. Silliman's papers appeared in two installments with different titles (August/Sept. and Dec.) in the American Chemist, the journal founded and edited by the brothers Charles F. Chandler and William H. Chandler.
