- Abstract
- Over 500 images were needed to create this image of a corn field. These images were captured with a hyperspectral camera on a drone flown over a Champaign corn field on October 22nd, 2024. This field was planted with “cold corn”, a more durable strain of corn able to survive lower temperatures. With Metashape software these 500+ images with geographical coordinates attached to each image were compiled to create a complete picture of the corn field (shown on the bottom). The background images show only 30% of what was needed to create the corn field image. From the compiled holistic corn field image, a tri-colored (dark brown, light brown, green) picture of the field was created with QGIS software (shown on top). By virtually extracting the individual plots, the various “greenery” of each plot can be compared to past flyovers of the same field to show the growth of this cold corn.
