- Abstract
- This essay explores the life and musical style of violinist and composer Franz von Vecsey, offering an analysis and a performance guide to his selected caprices for violin and piano, as well as his Preludio and Fuga for solo violin. Chapter 1 introduces Vecsey’s musical background, his career as a concert violinist, and the influential figures who shaped his artistic development. Chapter 2 discusses his musical style and interpretative approach, drawing from recordings made between 1903 and 1933. It also highlights stylistic shifts in his playing, reflecting trends in early twentieth-century performance practices. Chapter 3 presents a detailed analysis of his selected compositions, addressing their technical demands, including tempo, bowing, fingerings, articulation, and dynamics, while offering practice recommendations. The conclusion reaffirms the purpose of this research, underscoring the significance of Vecsey’s compositions within the violin repertoire.
