- Abstract
- The Spring 2005 issue of AEMS News and Reviews (Vol. 8, No. 1) presents diverse cultural and historical narratives through a featured essay on Mei Lanfang, the renowned Peking opera performer, and a review of "The Worlds of Mei Lanfang". Other media reviews include "From Opium to Chrysanthemums" and "Drug Story," which explore opium addiction among the Hmong people in northern Vietnam, Lao PDR, and Thailand, with references to Hmong refugees in the United States. Additionally, "Lost Treasures of Tibet" focuses on the preservation of Tibetan culture and murals in Nepal, while "Nostalgia for the Countryside" provides insight into rural life and changing traditions in Vietnam. Lastly, "Dream Trackers: Yapa Art and Knowledge of the Australian Desert" introduces Indigenous Australian perspectives from the Central Australian desert. This issue collectively examines themes of tradition, memory, and identity across these varied cultural landscapes.
